What is so important about the maximum output voltage of a source unit? |
Maximum output voltage
Maximum output voltage is the measured output of the preamp section of a source unit rated in AC Volts. Higher "unclipped" output voltages are desirable when selecting a source unit. There is no fix for a source unit that "clips" before reaching maximum output. This is a function of how well the power supply is designed and built in the source unit. A High output "unclipped" source unit voltage allows most amplifier gains to be set at a minimum and still drive the amplifier to full output. This also reduces the overall noise in the system.
- Drives amplifiers to full potential without distortion
- Reduces noise in audio system
- Increases dynamic range of audio system
